Constable Kean? prosecuted, stating thai; accused came into town on Saturday au.i had been knocking about the outskirts of the town cadging mo.ie-.- and ihen getting drunk on the proceeds of his begging He had been wanvvl to "leave the town, and had promised to ilo so, but last evening he was in High-street cadging again. Constable Moloney corroborated this evidence. Accused said that he certainly had been drinking, but when arrested be was making his way to the railwaystation, intending to go to Mangatainoka, where he could get a job haymaking. A list put in hy the police showed that accused had 40 previous convictions, principally for drunkenness, vagrancy, and theft, and the Bench sentenced him to three months' hard labor.
