GREAT FIRE AT CONSTANTINOPLE.

Press Assn —By telegraph—Copyright. CONSTANTINOPLE, Jan. 20. A fire originating in a room between the Sultan's private apartments and the Chamber of Deputies destroyed the Chiragan Palace, erected at a cost of £4,000,000. It is attributed to defective heating apparatus, though suggestions are afloat ascribing the catastrophe to incendiarism on the part of reactionaries. Sailors from the Russian and American gunboats were among the first on the scene, and gave splendid assistance, but all the archives of the Chamber, Bills in Committee, and the Budget Estimates were burnt. Parliament will resume its sittings in the Tashkishla Barracks.
