Waipukurau stock sales to-morrow. Abraham and Williams hold a stock sale at Pahiatua to-morrow. Mrs Paul, formerly a resident of Dannevirke, is at present enjoying a visit to old friends in this district. Some time ago the Government was inviting New Zealand mechanics to send exhibits of their work to the International Exhibition held at Shepherd's Bush last year. To this invitation Mr H. J. Hayward, foreman at the D.C'.A. woodware factory, responded bv forwarding the two inlaid table tops which gained him a silver medal and diploma at the Christchurch Exhibition. One of the table tops was inlaid in the form of a draught board, while the other was an inlaid portrait of the late Mr Seddon, most skilfully executed. These were sent to London through the Department of Commerce of Industries, and to-dav Mr Hayward received a letter from the department, in which he is informed that the High Commissioner has intimated to them that a «old medal and diploma has been awarded to Mr Hayward for his exhibit. Our townsman is to be heartilv congratulated upon his success, and it is certainly satisfactory to us to know that we'have amongst us a tradesman whose work has now been proved to stand well in the estimation of some of the best judges in the world.
