SUGGESTED IMPERIAL WIRELESS SYSTEM.
LONDON, yesterday. The Times, in a special article, suggests an Imperial wireless telegraphy system. It points out that •Marconi's Canadian service has transmitted 300,cJ0 words, mostly coded, and probably will transmit 5,000,000 in the coming year. The present average speed of 24 words per minute is likely to be increased 60 times: It- suggests Australian service stations at Malta, Alexandria, Aden, Bombay, Colombo, Singapore, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Wellington, each station to have a range of -2000 miles, at a cost of £55,000 and an upkeep charge'of £10,000. If the : British, and colonial Governments would equip "1-5 stations at accost of £825,000, and offer a subsidy- of £150,000 annually, an Imperial penny a word service would be possible. If each station' handled 15,000 words -daily, it would be possible to make a,., profit upon a complete Imperial system of 24. stations.
