H.M.S. PINAFORE.

The first practice of the orchestral band, for the Dannevirke Operatic Society's production of H.M.S. Pinafore was held last evening, under the leadership of Mr A. E. Savage. The band, working members and committee are all helping energetically to further matters. The society has now its full strength of vocal members, and cannot take any further nominations for this season's work. Practices are held regularly every Tuesday and full attendances are requested. The following is the caste of characters: — Sir Joseph Porter, K.C.B. First Lord of the Admiralty), Mr R. Robertshaw ; Captain Corcoran (Commander H.M.S. Pinafore), Mr D. N. Wilson; Ralph Rackstra-w (able seaman), Mr P. Hansard; Dick Deadeye (able seaman), Mr W. J. Melville; Bill Bobstay (boatswain), Mr. E. A. Ransom ; Bob Becket (boatswain's mate), Mr H. R. Woods; Tom Tucker (midshipmite), Miss Howie-Stewart; Josephine (captain's daughter), Miss Belle Pettit; Hebe (first cousin of Sir Joseph), Miss Belle Robertson; Little Buttercup (a Portsr mouth boatwoman), Miss Ada Freeman.
