' The occupants included Mr and Miss Morrah, of the Bank of Australasia, and Mr* Henderson, deputy-superintendent of the bank, iioav on an official visit to the dominion. The latter was thrown clear, but Mr and Miss Morrah and tho chauffeur were pinned underneath the- car. These were quickly released, however, but the car soon afterwards blazed up, and there being no means at hand to extiuguish the tiro, it was totally destroyed. Tho monthly meeting of the Ormondvillo School Committee was held last evening. Present : Messrs N. Nikolaison (chair), Bovaird, Newling, Ui'dward, ami G. D. May (hon. secretary). Correspondence was received from the Education Board, stating that repairs to the spouting would l)o effected when the buildiug was painted. — Reooivod. The Board also fonvarded the." sum of £7 10s, grant towards repairing fences. The School Committees' Association wrote stating that tho first meeting of" the body would be held in Napier on 13th August, and asking the committee to appoint a representative. — Held over till next meeting. It was resolved to call tenders for fencing, the chairman, secretary and Mr Bovaird to attend to same. The quarterly capitation grant to the amount of £8 13s 9d was received. Mr T. W. Redward was appointed to visit the school during tho ensuing month.

. Mr McNab lectured to a large audience at Blenheim last night in favor of universal military training, and a resolution in favor of the proposal was carried. At Wellington yesterday, .Sir Joseph Ward told a deputation that waited upon him in reference to the Stratford-Ongarue railway that the extra distance would mean an additional cost of £290,000 to £300,000, and Government could not see its way to depart from their decision that the Ongarue route should be followed. Great interest is taken in the annual inter-college matches between Te Aute and Wanganui. This year the contest will be played on the show, grounds at Palmerston North on Wednesday afternoon next, the 23rd inst,, of the Dairy Show week. A fine exposition of Rugby football is anticipated. On the sam© afternoon a Wellingtoai representative Association football team will play the; Manawatu team on the same ground.
