SALVATION ARMY.
The annual meeting of the above for the purpose of bringing the Army's rescue work before the people was held in the baracks last evening, when there was a fair attendance. Mr C. Hall, M.H.R., occupied the chair, owing to the absence of the Mayor (Pastor Ries), in Napier, from whom a telegram of apology was received, also donation of £1 towards the fund for rescue work. The Chairman, in his opening address, explained to his hearers how much the Army's rescue work was appreciated by Parliament, and said he was of opinion that Government should subsidise religious bodies which were carrying on this kind of work. He stated it gave him great pleasure to be present, and he would always be willing to use his influence and lend his aid to any such movement hi the future. At the conclusion o{ Mr Hall's address, the Army band played a selection, after which the Hey. T. T. Tkomas addressed the meeting. Following was an address by Major Glover, who gave a lengthy outline of the various branches of Army rescue work, and he quoted statistics to show the extent of the undertaking. At the conclusion of the address, the band played "Or a Pro Nobis," during which a collection was taken up in aid of the rescue branch of the Army's work, the sum of £o being collected in the barracks. Votes of thanks to the chairman and the speakers and donors terminated the meeting.
