WEBER SPORTS.
The annual sports were held on Friday last and were very successful from all points of view. The day turned out an ideal one. The course, in spite of a week's rain, was in first-class order. The attendance of the public was large, considering the late wet weather and bad roads. Entries were numprous, and the finishes (except in two cases) were very close. The most of the work was done by Messrs Cox, Herbert, D. Eiddell, N. Munro, and D. P. Ryan, with Mr Quigley acting secretary, who all deserve j credit for the day's success. The playing of the Dannevirke Brass Band, under Conductor Haines, added greatly to the attractiveness of the meeting. The following are the results : — Quoits — Harkness and A. Herbert equal. Also competed - Crosse, Kobertson, Harvey, Irvine, Hales. Throwing 161 b hammer — R. Stewart (5) 68 feet, Ist ; J. Young (2) 67 feet 6 inches, 2nd. Harvey (scr), J. McDonald (5), Carmichael (5), also started., Hurdle event, 120yds-— W. Cittadini, scr, Ist ; E. Poole, syds yards behind, 2nd ;J. Wylie, 4yds behind, 3rd. W. Wylie 2yds, Breakwell 9yds, J. Young ICtyds, Marshall 11yds behind, also ran. Very good, were altogether at finish. Medley event (horses), walk, trot,'gallop—J. Young Ist, Stuart 2nd, Power 3rd. 10 competed. 410 yds Handicap — G, Marshall (15yds) Ist; "W. Cittadini (40yds), 2nd; E. Oliver (35yds), 3rd. Burns 15yds, Young 20, Breakwell 25, Poole 30, J. Wylie 35, dlso ran. Won very easily. Putting the shot. — Lennaine (lft) 34ft siu, 1 ; J. Harvey (scr) 32ft Sin, 2. J. Young (lft), Telford (2ft), Carmichael (2ft 6in), McDonald (3ft Gin) also competed Despatch riders' race. — 3J. Stewart 1, J. Young 2, P. Mackenzie 3. Twelve competitors. 220 Yards handicap. — E. Marshall (Byds) 1, E. Poole (25yds) 2, W. Culliden (25yds) 3. Young (10yds), Breakwell (14yds), Burne (14yds), Dewer (20 yds), Shanks (25yds), aud Herbert (27 yds) also ran. Boys' race, 150 yds. — Ralph Hales 1, W. Franklin 2, C. Hales 3. Ten others ran. Running high ;jurap handicap. — McDonald (6in) sft Bin, Breakwell (6in) oft Sin, W. Wylie (Sin) oft 7in, Young (4in) oft 6in, Cittadini (7in) sft 6in. McDonald and Breakwell had three further tries and tied again, and so divided first and second prizes. High jump (liorses). — J. Franklin's piebald 1, R. Stewart's chestnut 2. Six others competed. Owing to the wet ground the jumping was very poor. 100 Yards Handicap. - Oittadini (14yds) 1, J. Mackenzie (15yds) 2, Burns (10yds) 3. Young (syds), Marshall (6yds), Breakwell (Syde), J. Wylie (I2yrts), Shanks (12yds). Poole (13yds), J. Mackenzie (13yds), Oliver (13yds), W. Wyhe (14yds), K. Herbert (15yds). Best event of the day, most of the runners got home together. Standing chop, 18in log. — Setter (30 sec) 1, McAuley (scr) 2, F. Herbert (30 sec) 3. Only competitors. Girls' race under 15. — Katie Mackenzie 1, S. Weavers 2, E. Mackenzie 3. Five ran. Half-mile handicap. — Belcham (40 yds) 1, Breakwell <7Oyds) 3. Burns <4O yds) 3. Shanks (SOyds), Herbert (95 yds) also ran. Ladies' Bracelet handicap, 150 yds. — F. Herbert (20yds) 1. Dewer (10yds) 2, Marshall (2yds) 3. Young (7yds), Culliden (9yds), Burns (10yds), W. Wylie (12yds), J. Wylie (14yds), J. McDonald (14yds), Shanks (16yds) also ran. Very good '•ace. District settlers' race, 150 yds. — J. McDonald (syds) 1, H. Poole (scr) 2, G. Lovejoy (10yds) 3. Robertson and P. Ryan (scr), and Johnson (10yds) also ran. Close race. All well up at the finish.
