H. B. RABBIT BO ARD.
The following report from Inspector I JlcPherson was read at the last meeting of the Board : — Went over sections in Upper Umutaoroa Block ; saw traces on Foggarty's and started a rabbit on Linehan's, came back through another portion of this block ; saw a few sigus on other three sections, but could find out who the owners were. Came on to Otope, went out on T. H. Hunter's place, started a rabbit and saw traces. Went over Martin's and W. G. Hunter's farms, traces on W. G. Hunter's ; carve on to Kumeroa in the evening. Came down the Manawatu river-bed to provincial boundary ; saw traces on Lynch'a place near Kumeroa, and also on Holder's, close to Bolton's boundary and near Thomson's corner. Crossed on to a piece of new grassod country of Mr Crosses, killed two old rabbits ; bays heard since that man with a pack of dogs has boon at work, but could not iind any rabbits. Came up through sections in the Totara Valley ; started one rabbit on Wright's and saw traces on Bartosh's. Went over Gregory's and Shaw's sections in the Totora Valley ; killed one rabbit on Gregory's and saw another near Shaw's boundary. Saw one rabbit on Nelson's, on the western side of the railway lino ; traces on Prescot's at Kopua, but not so numerous as on my last inspection; went over a portion of TeWhiti clearings, no improvement on tlm place, warned Mr Golian that more energetic steps ■would have to be taken to destroy them. Met Mangatoro rabbiter, and whilst along with him killed two rabbits ; saw a number of traces on Oporae portion ; since then about 20 rabbits have been killed. Went over sections south of the fence ; saw traces at ono placs on Stewart's ; thoy scorned to be disappearing on this pliico altogether. Went over Mark Franklin's, south of tho fence, traces on several places near standing bush. Went over Easterbrook's and McLean's south of the fence, saw signs on both sections, but there did not appeal- to be many rabbits. Went over McLeod's and Warins's, south of the fence ; saw some traces but no rabbits. Trapped ono rabbit at tho back of Pine Grove. Came through Mount Willams (Cripps'a), saw some traces. Came down to the sea wall, all in good order ; went over Stock reserve at Waimata, north of the fence, saw several traces of rabbits ; the linesman killed a doe and four young ones hero a day or two ago. Went over a portion of Tautane; saw traces on beach paddock and at Cape Turnagain. Out about Wainui, killed one rabbit on Mr George Franklin's, but saw no other indications. Came up through sections from Wimbledon ; saw a number of traces on Wift'en's, but every effort is being put forth to destroy the rabbits on this place. Camo on to Webnr, went over Byan's section nl tho junction of the Tahoukaretu creek and Akiteo river ; saw traces whero I had noticed them on previous occasions ; warned Ryan that more energetic steps would have to be taken to destroy them ; went out in evening with Mr Goodwin over his place, killed two rabbits, but did not ace many signs. Came up through sections east of Oporae road ; killed a rabbit on Rochfort's, and saw traces on Gregory's, west of Oporae road. Went over sections between Oporae road and Mangatoro boundary ; killed two rabbits in Hunt's Btanding bush, one on D. McLeod's and one in standing bush near Mangatoro boundary.
