(per pkess association.) Wellington, This day. Mr Hales, Engineer-in-Chiof, is expected back from the West Coast tomorrow. He has been engaged in inspecting with the view to passing two sections of the Midland railway along the northern shore of Lake Brunner. In consequent of the elections the Chief Justice has postponed the opening of the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court from Monday next to the following Thursday. The Chief Justice dismissed tha Union Company's appeal in a case where £11, as the value of a dog lost in transit between Wellington and the Bluff, was awarded by a magistrate.
