THE FINEST ORANGE IN THE WORLD.

Tho Maltese blood orango ia one ot tne choicest and most highly flavoured of all tho varieties of the orange. It is true that the flavour is not so mild and sweet as some, but in delicate aroma and sprightliness it is scarcely excelled or equalled by any. In size it is about medium, and in shape it is Blightly oval. The peel is not bo thin as that of some varieties, but the core is unnsually small, and seeds are quite rare. The name " blood " is attached because of the unusual characteristic red colour of the pulp. This, however, varies greatly in different climates ; as, for instance, iv California it is tnoro inclined to show the red than in Florida and the Gulf coast, where, in fact, it sometimes occurs that well-developed specimens have no red colour at all, os but tho slightest trace. The skin is also thicker in California, aud the flavour in more acid than the same variety grown east of the Mississippi river. In the Mediterranean legions the flesh is almost as rod that of the beet, the skin is like velvet, aud the flavour tart. At its name indicates, this orange is a nativo, no far back as history goes, of the Island of Malta, in the Mediterranean sea.
