CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
Young New Zealanders' CJub.— The official opening took place recently in St. Mark's Hall, when the speaker was Archdeacon Houghton. Mrs. R. Worsfold. founder of the club, presided and received floral tributes from the members. The club, it was pointed out. existed to assist anv charitable organisation, and their membership to date was 70. A presentation was made to Archdeacon Houghton, who had ably assisted the club. Mothers' Club.—The speakers at meetings during the month were Mrs. C. Dickens, her subject being "Colours and Their Meaning," and Mrs. C. Dawson, who gave a talk on "Beauty in Simple Things." Mrs. Dickens presided over a spring afternoon, when a competition for shoulder sprays was held. Other activities included a gift afternoon, a picture evening and a social and dance held in the assembly hall.
New Women's Club.—ln a talk on "War Neurosis," Mr. Brian Knight referred to various types of neurosis, including, in addition >to servicemen finding it hard to readjust themselves to normal living, the wives, parents, problem children, nurses and teachers—to a greater or less degree, all intelligent and sensitive people suffering from overwork, anxiety, doubts and fears, all the result of the stress and strain of war conditions. He emphasised the necessity for "some thorough- i going organisation," a clinic to whi<-h I all types of problem cases could be ! referred, and where specialist and! psychiatric treatment would ,be! available, before they became hps-1 pital cases. The president. Mrs. R. J. Roberts, presided. Women's Ijuncheon Club.—Miss ! G. A. Bertram gave a talk on the ! Channel Islands at the monthly : meeting, which was presided over j by Miss Freda Brooks.
