CABLE COMPANY'S STAFF

News has been received of the following New Zealanders who, prior to Japan's entry into the war, were serving at different branches of Cable and Wireless, Ltd., in the Far East:—Being repatriated after internment: W. Eldon Coates, Christchurch; P. D. Sladden, Nelson; J. B. C. Henderson, Motueka. At Shanghai, reported well: F. S. Coote, Nelson. At Singapore, temporarily under treatment: W. Lamper Smith and wife, Wellington. Reported lost at sea during evacuation cf Singapore: J. M. Gamble, Auckland. Six other members of the staff serving in Malaya died in captivity, while twelve were lost at sea during the evacuation.
