BUS SERVICE WANTED
EPSOM RESIDENTS' PLAINT "That the present transport facilities available for the residents of Epsom, through Gillies' Avenue and St. Andrews Road to Selwyn Road are totally insufficient and unsatisfactory" was the text of a resolution carried unanimously at a crowded meeting of the Epsom branqh of the Citizens' and Ratepayers' Association.. Mr. P. Shaw presided and the speakers were Messrs. J. Terry, H. J. Butcher and L. Grieve. Attention was called by the speakers to a tally taken by the Auckland City. Council of tram travellers without seats. This showed that for the three-quarter hour period between 4.30 and 5.15 p.m. on fewer than 742 persons stood on cars serving the Epsom district. *
It was claimed that, the proposed bus service to St. Andrews Road would considerably ease the overcrowding of trams, as well as providing convenient transport for the large number of elderly people who lived in the areas to be served.
The meeting decided to support the Hospital Bus Company's application to the Licensing Authority.
