SALE OF DIAMONDS

COLLECTION AUCTIONED The largest diamond sale in Auckland for 20 years took place by auction yesterday, when a collection of various stones comprising about 40 pieces insured for £10.000 was offered at the rooms "f Richard Arthur, Ltd., and Raymond Eder, Queen Street. The collection was auctioned on behalf of various vendors and the sale was attended by over 100 from all over the Dominion. Most of the lots were bought by private individuals ard only one person purchased more than one lot. Present during the sale were detectives and a uniformed constable. The nighest bid of the day of £1150 was for a 6.6 carat unset solitaire diamond about the size of a thumbnail, but this did not reach the reserve. A collection of pearls insured for £1100 and a 7i carat diamond brooch set in platinum were also passed in. A diamond spray brooch of 95 stones sold for £350.
