CARGO OF CLOTHING
VESSEL DUE THIS MONTH
PA. WELLINGTON, this day. Due to load cargo for the Middle East at New Zealand ports this month, the Marie Bakke will take to Europe all the clothing which NewZealand has been collecting to help to reduce distress in Europe next winter The vessel will load clothing at Timaru, where she is due from Sydney on October 9, Welling, ton aricl Auckland. Her agents expect to dispatch her finally about November 3, so she should be discharging at whatever Mediterranean port she is directed to towards the end of that month.
The shipping of the goods is being arranged by the Ministry of Supply. Great difficulty was encountered in obtaining the ship, even though there are other essential goods to go to the Middle East from New Zealand and the Marie Bakke will be full.
Second-hand civilian clothing and footwear which has been collected in New Zealand amounts to 1,294,7201b, and fills 5719 cases and 850 bales.
Quantities Consigned
Quantities will t>e consigned as follow: —To Poland, 492,2401b, 40 per cent - to Yugoslavia, 406,5601b, 30 per cent to Greece, 169,6801b, 15 per cent; to Czechoslovakia, 143,9201b, 10 per cent; to Albania, 82,3201b; 5 per cent. . ... , In addition to civilian goods collected in the big drive, the Marie Bakke will take to Europe £160,000 worth of used Army clothing, blankets and footwear purchased by Unrra.
