STEEL HELMETS

SALE OF E.P.S. EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE AT SMALL COST Steel helmets manufactured for the Auckland E.P.S. organisation during the war emergency period are to be disposed of at a fraction of their cost. The number involved which represents surplus stock, runs into several thousands. The helmets had no salvage value and authority had been obtained from the National Service Department to retail them at a shillinpr each, said Mr. A. C. Hipwell, executive E.P.S. officer, to-day. It had been suggested that they could be adapted as fern baskets or as water troughs in fowl-yards. Possibly, too, they would be popular with children in their games.

"Helmets and other items possessed by members of the organisation are still regarded as being on issue, pending the revocation of the emergency regulations," said Mr. Hipwell. "The medical equipment supplied to various households is not under the head office's jurisdiction. Funds for the supply of medical cupboards and tirst-aid equipment were provided by each district concerned and the matter is in the hands of the local committees. Householders concerned about this equipment should contact the district woman warden."

The head office had sold the medical supplies which it had held, he added, but there was a considerable quantity of other . equipment, such as first-aid stretchers, gas masks and fire bucket pumps still on hand.
