UNITY OF CHURCHES
DOMINION LEADS THE WAY New Zealand was far ahead of Australia in regard to its National Council of Churches, said the Rt. Rev. J. S. Moyes. Bishop of Armidale, New South Wales, who arrived at Auckland by flying-boat yesterday afternoon en route to the Dominion Christian Order Conference which opens in Christchurch on August 28.
New Zealand churches, said Bishop Moyes, had set an example which many in Australia were anxious to follow. The Commonwealth had not achieved such unity that existed in New Zealand and, therefore, the churches had not been able to exercise a similar influence on community life. He was hopeful of learning something from New Zealand which would strengthen the work in Australia.
Bishop Moyes. who is staying with the Rt. Rev. W. J. Simkin, met Auckland representatives of the National Council of Churches this morning for an informal discussion. He leaves for the south to-night and will spend the week-end in Wellington. He will then go to Christchurch, where he will spend about a week.
