OBITUARY

MR. F. G. .AVAYXE O.C. THAMES, this day. The death has occiured of Mr. Frederick George Wayne, aged 78, a wellknown local resident of Thames. Born at Palmerston South, he was the elder son of the late Mr. Frederick Wayne, first representative of the Hampden electorate in Parliament. He joined the staff of the National Bank of New Zealand, but retired to take up farming. Joining the Department of Agriculture, he was a stock inspector, being stationed at Milton, Carterton, Hastings and Masterton, and, on his transfer to Thames, he developed lands in the Hauraki Plains.

Mr. Wayne served for 15 years on the Thames High School Board. At his residence. Riverside, he developed an exceptional collection of ornamental flowering and orchard trees. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
