WINTER RACING
TRENTHAM JUMPING
GOOD ARMOUR FANCIED
Four of the acceptors for the Winter Hurdles are also engaged in the July Steeplechase, these two races being the principal events for jumpers at the conclusion of the Wellington Racing Club's winter meeting at Trentham on Saturday. The horses referred to are Town Survey, Hunto, Ramillies and Lapidarian, and it is by no means improbable that they will be started in the hurdles, although Mr. A. J, F. Walker, who owns Lapidarian, also has Good Armour engaged in this event.
Good Armour won the Great Northern Hurdles early in "June, and after his good showing in the Trentham Hurdles last Saturday, when he finished third to Brantome and Boolamskee, -he is likely to be favourite. ■ The son of Dink and Armutum is nicely treated with 9.11, and< as staying is his forte, he should be running on strongly when some of the Others are stopping. , Town Survey, the top-weight, is p a very fit horse, and he won this event .two •years ago, while he was also successful* at the recent Northern meeting, where he took the Campbell Hurdles from Hunting Mac and Gold Cape. However, he has his share of weight, and may not be able to concede 251b to Good Armour. Disappointing Form Hunto, 11.4, ran a long way .below his best in the Trentham Hur Mes; finishing towards the rear of the field, and a vast improvement will be necessary' for him to be in the money. The same remark applies to Moderate; which appears, to have lost all form, but Boolamskee has a good reputation in the South Island, where he won two races in succession in June. He finished second to Brantome last Saturday, and was running on solidly, but whether he can stay two miles and a quarter is problematical. Neither Epping nor Ramillies appeal, and Abdicate, a good winner last weekend, is said to be likely to start in the Corunna Hurdles, in which he appears to have a second to none chance. However, if his owner declares for the Winter, Abdicate must be respected. Arabian Night is a sound performer both on the flat and over hurdles, while he also shines in heavy going, so that he should be hard to beat with only 9.7. Good Fun, which is well in with 9.6, may not start, and none of those below her in the handicap appeal.
