HAMILTON ASSAULTS
REMANDED FOR SENTENCE HAMILTON, Thursday. Eleven charges of assault, one of theft and one of committing mischief were admitted by Leonard Longman, aged 26, railway fireman (Mr. King), before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in Hamilton to-day.
Senior Sergeant H. F. Coddington said the police had received complaints from young women. The 11 charges of assault related to a period from April 30 to June 22 and consisted of throwing odious and repulsive liquid matter over women and into their faces at night. The assaults had caused fear and alarm.
Mr. King said there was no possible motive for accused's conduct. He had served for three years overseas and had an excellent civilian and Army record. The magistrate described the case as a difficult one. He remanded accused for a fortnight for sentence.
