RETURNING TO ENGLAND
Wing-Commander W. V. CrawfordCompton, D.S.O. and bar, D.F.C. and bar, who has been spending a short furlough in the Dominion, will leave Auckland by air for England to-morrow to attend a staff college course of about six to nine months' duration, before being posted for further duty. Wing - Commander Crawfo'rd-Compton has been awarded a permanent commission in" the Royal Air Force: Last night, Wing • Commander Crawford-Compton paid tribute to the work of Major-General H, K. Kippenberger, D.S.O. and bar, as officer in charge of the repatriation of New Zealand prisoners of war in England. "Every repatriated prisoner sees him and holds him in great l'egard," said the airman. "He gets about famously on his artificial feet, and he-is doing a really great job." More support for the Fernleaf Club in-London was urged by WingCommander Crawford-Compton. The club, which was staffed by New Zealand Waacs under Lady Freyberg, was now overcrowded with the addition of repatriated prisoners of war, he said. He also spoke highly of the work of the National Patriotic Fund Board.
