ALIMONY OR GAOL
DOCTOR REFUSES. TO PAY PROTEST AGAINST LAW O.C. SYDNEY, June 20. protesting against the tew on judicial separation. Dr. H. W. Cuthbert of Eastwood (Sydney), refused to pay alimony and demanded to be sent to gaol. He appeared m the Divorce Court on a motion for writ of attachment issued by Dorothy Cuthbert, 53, for non-payment of ali A°mli by Mrs. Cuthbert for judicial separation is pending. In the meantime alimony of £9 a week has been ordered, and the doctor owes he "l £ hive not paid any alimonyas a protest against the tew. which expects a man to support a wife who is not a wife for the rest of her life, and compels him to hve in a state of immorality," said Dr. Cuthbert. "If she doesn't grant me a divorce she won't be able to get alimony because to be successful a doctor must be married and living with his wife. If he is not, he is not thought as much of as a married practiMr. Justice Edwards ordered a writ of attachment to be issued, to lie In the office for one week and not to be executed, provided £63 was paid by that date.
