ASSISTANCE IN WARTIME
P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. When the full story of the war effort of the 8.8.C. was made known people would realise what a tremendous influence broadcasting had had in the successful carrying on of the war in Europe, said Professor Shelley, Director of Broadcasting, who with Mr. J. R. Smit, chief engineer, represented the National Broadcasting Service at the Empire Broadcasting Conference. In an interview he indicated that the greater part of what he had seen and heard on the trip was confidential. Conference delegates had greatly appreciated the generous way in which the heads of the 8.8.C. had made available to them any information likely to be of value to them. It was hoped that as a result of the conference very much closer relations would exist between the various broadcasting the Empire in general pooling of information and other directions. It was hoped to carry on in peacetime the close working tgether that had been forced upon the various parts of the Empire by the war.
