CYCLING Combined Run By ManukauLynndale Clubs
The combined Manukau-Lynndale Amateur Cycling Clubs held an ' 18-mile road race this afternoon. The course extended from Point Chevalier to Lincoln Road, Henderson, and back. Forty-two riders competed. A strong westerly wind slowed riders on Ihe early stages of the outward run. A fine effort was produced by the winner, P. R. Harvey, of the Manukau Club. Although Harvey fell on the climb up Waikumete Hill on the return, lie quickly remounted rind caught the leaders within two miles of the finish. Scratch men were C. W. Shilton. V. A. Hills and A. W. stonex, who gave away starts up to 10m 303, on which mark wero G. J. Smith and J. West, of the Lynndale Club. In making fastest time, Shilton beat Hills in by a length, with Stonex several lengths behind Hills. Results:— F. R. Jfnrvey (Ml, 4.30. time 50.25, 1; G. AnsLicc (L), 5.30, 51.26, 2; D. White (M), 6.30, 52-57, 3; 11. S. Haszard (Ml, 0.30, 52 28, 4: a. Appleton (L), 4.30, 50.39, 5; W. J. s. Nash <M), 6.30, 52-48, 0: P. A. Carroll (M), 8.0. 54.20 7; P. W Willis (M), 4.30, 60.21, 8; R. G. Hughes <L), 5.30, 52.6, 9; L. H. Griffiths (Ml, 6.30. 53.7, 10; G A Grant (MJ, 4.30. 60.38, 11; J. I. Walker (M), 3.30, 50.30, 12. Fastest riders were: O. W. Shilton, scr, 49 25, 1: V. A. Hills, scr, 49.20, 2; A. W. Stonex, scr, 49.27. Course record is held by J. H. G. Hill, Lynndale, at 48.4. Next Saturday the Auckland Centre will hold ft S5 miles senior race and ft junior race of 13 miles. For the- senior event the Phillips Cup will be at stake. Last year J. I. Walker won this trophy. PAPATOETOE CI.UIS.—The Papatoetoe Amateur Cycle Club held a race over the Drury circuit. Results: F. Tredrea, scr, time 54.2, 1: A James, 12.0, time 06.3, 2; V, Lowe, 1.0. time 55.4, 3, Fastest times: F. Tredrea 1, V. Lowe 2.
