PAPAKURA FIRE BRIGADE
A new fire engine has been secured for the Papakura Volunteer Fire Brigade, and. at a social evening to celebrate the event, the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, said that Papakura had grown out of the "bucket and ladder" stage. The engine, he said, had cost £700 and the brigade also had a Government auxiliary pump valued at £600 and other gear, the total value being well over £2000. The time was not far distant when a new building, with an upstairs social room, would have to be provided. Other speakers were Superintendent W. Francis and Mr. E. J. Busing.
