BANK OF NEW ZEALAND

NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED P.A. WELLINGTON, Friday. The postal ballot of ordinary shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand for the election of a shareholders' representative to the board of directors resulted as follows: Mr. Stronach Paterson, 674,054; Mr. C. W. D. Bell, 213,035; Mr. A. D. Park, 162,172; Mr. Samuel Blackley, 122,853; Mr. M. O. Barnett, 76,721. Disallowed (informal votes) number 114,100. Mr. Paterson, who was managing director of A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., from 1931 until his voluntary retirement in 1940, is also a director of a number of other finance, manufacturing and marketing companies in the Dominion, including the South British Insurance and Gear Meat Co., of which he is chairman. The directorate of the Bank of New Zealand numbers six, four of whom are nominated by the Government and two elected by ordinary shareholders. For some time two Government seats have been allowed to remain vacant, while a third vacancy, which has now been filled by the election of Mr. Paterson, occurred through the death prior to the last annual meeting of Mr. A. E. Mabin, a shareholders' representative.
