TRANSFER OF FARMS
PURCHASES BY SOLDIERS QUESTION OP STAMP DUTY O.C. HAMILTON, Friday. The high figure to which stamp duty amounted during farm purchases and transfers to returned soldiers was emphasised by Mr. W. G.. Barclay, of Te Aroha, at a conference of delegates from the Waikato, King Country and Bay of Plenty Returned Services' Association district in Hamilton yesterday. Mr. Barclay said that on most farm transfers the stamp duty was at least £60, a sum that could be useful for the purchase of extra stock. It was unanimously decided to urge the Dominion executive to endeavour to secure the remission of conveyance duties on all first transfers to returned servicemen.
It was resolved that the Rehabilitation Department be asked to give more publicity to the scheme for subsidised farm training with the view of obtaining the best class of farmer to train ex-servicemen and that. the greatest care be taken in selecting farmers to ensure that there is a genuine desire to give the ex-serviceman a thorough training and not merely to acquire cheap labour.
