MT. MAUNGANUI'S STATUS
O.C. TE KUITI, this day. That Mount Maunganui be raised from the status of a town board to a borough, was carried by a vote of 275 with only 20 votes opposing, at a recent poll of ratepayers and residents. It is.expected that the necessary authority from Wellington will be received this month, when immediate steps will be taken to arrange f&r nomination and election of a mayor and council members. As the town board financial year ends on March 31 it is hoped that the borough council will commence functioning on April 1.
