MAORIS' BUSY DAY

STIRRED UP GERMANS N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent DIVISIONAL H.Q., December 29. Two members of the Maori Battalion would disagree violently with the official report that the New Zealand sector was quiet yesterday. During the day they moved into the ruins of a razed casa in a U-shaped bend of the Senio which overlooked the Germans on the other side of the river. From there they shot up everything that moved. The German reaction was a concentration of artillery fire on the casa in the evening, followed by a raid by a patrol sof eight men, who crossed the river and came unexpectedly on the casa from the rear. However, the Maoris went to ground in a previously prepared hideout, and, though one German searched closely within bayonet thrust of them, they were not discovered.
