FINE OF £75 IMPOSED
GAMING HOUSE CHARGE
Following a call made by Detective W A Mahood to his home in Birkenhead yesterday afternoon Francis Archibald Spencer (51) appeared before Mr J. H. Luxford, SM in the Police Court this morning "and pleaded guilty to a charge of using the premises as a common gaming house Mr. J. Terry appeared Detective-Sergeant Trethewey said Soencer told Detective Mahood that he had been using the house as a common gaming house for some weeks, and that he was acting as an agent for a bookmaker. While the police were at Spencer's house several bets were taken on the telephone. Up until the time the police had called about £5 in bets had been Mr' Terry said there were degrees of culpability in these cases. The operations of Spencer were such as would bring, him in the category of a minor delinquent. Spencer had been acting on a commission basis for some months since his earnings with the United States Joint Purchasing Board had decreased. The magistrate imposed a fine of £75. • ■'■■>■' ■ ••■:
