MISSING AIRMAN
O.C. HAMILTON, this day. Advice has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Williams, of Orini, that their eldest son, Flight-Lieuten-ant Stamford Seaton Williams, has been reported missing, believed killed. Aged 24, Flight-Lieutenant Williams was born at Wanganui and attended Orini School and Hastings High School, afterwards farming with his father at Orini, near Taupiri. After training in New Zealand he left in 1941 for Canada, where he gained his wings. Proceeding to England, he joined the New. Zealand Spitfire Squadron. Later he was in Malta flying Spitfires for seven months until the Tunisia campaign ended. Returning to England, he became Flight-Commander at an operational station. He was on operations flying Typhoons, and was later posted to the New Zealand Tempest Squadron, of which he was Flight-Commander, taking part in the battle of Arnhem. Flight-Lieutenant Williams was commissioned six months after his arrival in England, and last August was promoted flight-lieutenant. A younger brother, Aircraftman F. M. Williams, is with the R.N.Z.A.F. in the Pacific.
