DAYLIGHT THEFT

WOMAN'S HANDBAG SNATCHED An audacious theft was committed in Wynyard Street about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, whan an unidentified man snatched- a woman's handbag from under her arm and ran into a driveway at the back of St. Paul's Church. The victim was Mrs. G. L. Rabone, of Grafton Road. The handbag contained £10 10/ in cash and an allotment warrant which she was about to bank for her son, who is serving in Italy. At the time of the theft Mrs. Rabone was alone. Approaching her from behind, the man snatched the handbag from under her arm. Mrs. Rabone called loudly for help and followed the thief, who disappeared into the driveway. She then watched for him in Symonds Street, but no trace of him could be found. The police were called, but were also unable to findlhe man. So far no ai'rest has been made.
