FOR SUMMER HOLIDAYS
PRIZE-GIVING ARRANGEMENTS
The Christmas holidays for alt schools under the control of the Auckland Education Board will begin on Tuesday afternoon, December 19, and the first term next year will begin on Monday, February 5. The Otahuhu Technical School will hold its end-of-year ceremony on Thursday, December 14, and will close the following day, until Tuesday, February 6. Schools controlled by the Auckland Grammar School Board will reopen on February 6. The Mount Albert and Takapuna Grammar Schools will hold their prize-givings on Thursday, December 7, and the Auckland Grammar and Auckland Girls' Grammar Schools on the following day. The Epsom Girls' Grammar School will hold a prize-giving in the Auckland Grammar School hall on the evening of December 7, and the school will close the next day.
Prize-givings and speech days will be held at the Seddon Memorial College on Friday, December 8; at Sacred Heart College and St. Cuthbert's College on December 12; at the Diocesan High School on December - ; 13; and at King's College on December 14. With the exception of Sacred Heart College and King's College, which reopen on February 6, these schools will resume next year on February 7, boarders being required to report a day earlier. St. Cuthbert's College has already received so many applications for enrolments that there are no vacancies in the secondary forms next year, and it is possible to take only a few more kindergaren children. In the case of boarders, the college has been fully booked until 1947.
The Mayor, Mr. Allum, is expected to attend the final assembly of the Auckland Teachers' Training College, to be held in Campbell Hall on the afternoon of December 6. The college will close two days later, reopening for first year students on February 6, a day before the second and third year students are due to return. The principal, Mr. D. M. Rae, said yesterday that he expected to resume classes in the college at the beginning of next year. The Auckland University College concluded its activities with the last day of the final degree examinations on November 10. Students will be enrolled for 1945 on February 26 and 27, and on February 28 lectures will] begin.
