NON-LABOUR UNITY

CONFERENCE IN AUSTRALIA Rec. 10 a.m. CANBERRA, this day. The non-Labour unity conference called by the Leader of the Federal Opposition, Mr. Menzies, and attended by 80 delegates from all of the States, has set up committees to prepare plans and a constitution for an Australia-wide organisation. One committee will seek to give a name to the new party and outline its political objectives, while a second committee will decide the activities of the proposed organisation and the steps necessary for its formation.

Mr. Menzies declared that the conference has made notable progress. Some political correspondents, however, express the belief that strong Conservative interests will not accept the new organisation.
