GRATUITY SHARKS

WARDING THEM OFF

WHEW BRITAIN RESETTLES

LONDON. Mr. Bevin, the Minister of Labour, is planning to establish Resettling Advice offices in all parts of the country. Their job, he told the House of Commons, will be to remove the difficulties of men and women when they leave the services and other forms of national service after the war. The staffs of these new offices will be carefully selected for their tact and knowledge of Government measures for post-war reconstruction. Much of their work will concern activities in which the Ministry is directly concerned, such as post-war training schemes and rehabilitation. But, in addition, t'ney will be able to tell inquirers what the Board of Trade is doing to regulate trade, about the demands of the Board of Education for teachers, and, indeed, the prospects in the entire field of peacetime resettlement. After this war servicemen and others will be steered clear of sharks who may seek to rob them of their savings and gratuities by selling them dud "businesses." Thousands of men had unhappy experiences of this kind of fraud after the last war. The Company Law Amendment Committee of the Board of Trade is being urged to control by license or registration all those engaged as agents in transfers of this kind.
