PLUNKET WORK
At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society over which the president, Mrs. R. P. Towle, presided, a brief talk was given by Miss H. Chapman, charge nurse, on the maternal mortality rate showing how New Zealand compared favourably with other countries, the rate having fallen from 6.48 in 1920 per 1000 to 2.2 per 1000 in 1943. , . . With the lifting of travel restrictions, it was decided that a general conference is to be held in Wellington in November. The following sub-committees were elected: —Executive, Mesdames R. P. Towle, Bruce Mackenzie, H. Burrell, G. A Hardley, D. Poison, A: C. Paterson, M. Wilkinson; house committee, Mesdames Stace Bennett, G. A. Hardley, P. McClatchie, L, J. Shrubsall, E. Friedlander, Hylton Nash (sub-branch representative); selection commtitee, Mesdames S. J. Robinson, H.A.Cooper, N.A.Duthie and Matron; sewing committee, Mesdames A. St. C. Brown, A. J. Beck, A. Campbell, L. C. H. Dawson, W. Fortune; P. McClatchie, H. Paykel, C. P. Worley.
