PLAY-OFF POSSIBLE

GALLAHEU SHIELD RUGBY There is the possibility that after the final series of Gallaher Shield club Rugby games on Saturday two teams will be level in the lead. In this , case a special meeting of the union will be held to decide on the question of a play-off. At present Ponsonby leads by one point from University, with Manukau a point further away. On Saturday Ponsonby meets Otahuhu and University meets Manukau. If a play-off is necessary it may be played in conjunction with the Jubilee Trophy game on September 30. The management committee last evening received a very favourable report from the manager of the Auckland team which visited Wellington, Mr. J. W. Lethbridge. Permission was given for the Technical Old Boys sjpnior team to visit Helensville on Saturday and the Eden senior team tp visit Thames on September 23. The Railway Apprentices' Club (Otahuhu) was granted permission to play its annual match against the-Wellington Apprentices' Club at Eden Park at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday week, subject to the ground conditions being satisfactory. It was decided that the presentation of the Bert Palmer Memorial Cup be made to the winners of the competition at 1.45 p.m. at Eden Park on Saturday week.
