CLOSING THIS MONTH
MOSSBANK COAL MINE (P A.) INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. The Mossbank coal mine will close down on September 23, according to a notice posted at the mine to-day. The employers refuse to make any statement at present, but it is suggested in another quarter that the niine is 1 being closed because it is ah uneconomic proposition. It is believed .the Government has suggested that the men should run the mine on a co-operative basis, but approval was not given by the miners. The daily output of the mine is about 100 tons. About 50 mep are affected, and it is stated that it will be almost impossible to absorb all of them in . other mines under present working conditions.
