PENICILLIN SUPPLIES
COMMENT BY MINISTER
(By Telegraph!— Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, this day. "The Australian Commonwealth laboratories are now sending New Zealand sufficient quantities of penicillin to enable doctors to deal with all cases . where life is in danger, and. 1 in addition, the limited range of infections which are likely to benefit from the penicillin treatment," said the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, when commenting on the suggestion that advances in the methods of extracting the drug would now justify its manufacture in the Dominion,
"It is expected that early next year sufficient will be available for all critical needs," Mr.- Nordmeyer added. "There is also good ground for believing that the price is likely to fall appreciably. The evidence available at present does not justify the statement that penicillin can be manufactured ecoromically here, but advantage will be taken of the visit of Sir Howard Florey to obtain his'view of-this matter," lie added.
