OPTICIANS' WORK
NEW EMPLOYMENT ORDER MANPOWER REGULATIONS Under the Opticians Employment Order, which comes into force on September 21, any registered optician must have the consent of the district manpower officer before commencing or ceasing to practise or practising as an optician in a capacity different from that at the time of the commencement of the order. An employer is also unable, without the consent of the manpower officer, to terminate an optician's employment so as to prevent him from carrying out the obligation imposed on him under the order. "It is a good war time maasure," commented an Auckland optician this morning, "because it prevents an unscrupulous person cashing in on the practice of a person who has had to undertake military service. Any applications to commence business will come before the Manpower Utilisation Council, on which employers ahd employees are equally represented."
