MAORI WOMEN'S LEAGUE (0.c.) TAUPO, this day. Over 100 delegates of the Maori Women's Health League, representing 23 branches in the Auckland custrict from as far apart as Auckland and Maketu, attended _ the annual conference at the Waipahaha Pa, Taupo, on Saturday. , _ 7 A large number of guests included the Native Minister, Mr. Mason; the Under-Secretary for Native Affairs and Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, Mr. G. P. Shepherd; Mr. J. Harvey, Judge of the Native Land Court, Rotorua; Mr. P. A. Wallwork, inspector of health, Rotorua; Miss Mi L. Lambie, director of nursing; Miss L. A. Hill, inspector of native nurses; Miss R. T. Cameron, president and founder of the league. Mr. Mason said the Gpvernment was desirous of doing all it could to assist the league in its good work. Miss Cameron briefly outlined the aims and objects of the league. The main objectives were to take a keen interest in all matters to improve the health of the Maori people, to gain a knowledge in the care and feeding of babies, food values, cooking, and the value of fresh air and sunshine, to encourage gardening and learn Maori arts and crafts. A report on steps taken to secure a guest house in Rotorua for natives of the whole district showed that £800 was now in hand, all having been given by members of the league It was estimated that the total cost of a suitable guest house would be £2000. ...... ~ orir . Mr Mason said that about £200 would probably be made available from the Civil List. It was intimated that the Native Land Board, Rotorua, and the Tu-wharetoa Trust Board would each donate £200. It was decided to leave the securing ot a suitable site to the central committee in Rotorua.
