HOSPITAL CONTROL
AMALGAMATION PLAN
NOW BELIEVED TO BE DEAD (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. From information obtained on a recent visit to Wellington, the chairman of the Bay of Islands Hospital Board, Mr. G. H. McKenzie, fears that the hospital amalgamation scheme of the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, is dead. "Seemingly it has been impossible to find a formula to suit conditions for the whole of New Zealand, and apparently the idea would not be entertained by the Government unless it embraced the entire country, which was regarded as impossible either on a rateable or capital basis," said Mr. McKenzie, in reporting to the board. Members pointed out that Mr. Nordmeyer, on a tour five months ago, bound hospital boards to secrecy, but promised a public statement before the local body elections.
Considering that a move is afoot for a further conference of Northland boards further action was postponed for a month.
