FATAL INJURIES

RACEHORSE TRAINER FALL FROM FIRE ESCAPE (P.A.) WANGANUI, this day. Mr. Fred McHugh, the well-known Marton racehorse trainer, died in the Wanganui Hospital early this morning as the result of a fractured skull suffered on Saturday night when he fell from the fire escape at the rear of the Criterion Hotel in Wanganui. Nobody saw the accident, but it is surmised that Mr. McHugh mistook the door of the fire escape and stepped through it to fall on to the concrete in the yard below. Mr. McHugh, who was 38 years of age, was a married man with one child. He brought a number of horses to the Wanganui races on Saturday. He had been connected with racing for most of his life, first as a jockey and later as a successful trainer.
