OBITUARY

MB. PETER GROOS

Mr. Peter Groos, who was in business as a tailor in Auckland for 24 years, has died at the age of 65. Born in Estonia, he came to New Zealand with his business partner, Mr. R. Brummel, in 1909. In the Russo-Japanese War he served with the Russian Army, becoming a naturalised New Zealander after the last war. Mr. Groos is survived by one son.

MR. J. H. HOWELL Science master at the Auckland Grammar School from 1902 to 1905, Mr. John H. Howell has died at the age of 74. He was director of the Wellington Technical College for 12 years up to his retirement in 1931. He was born in England and taught on the Continent and in England before coming to New Zealand.

MR. G. A. SIMS At the age of S7 the death has occurred at Mamaku of Mr. George Alfred Sims. He was born in Devonshire, England, and came to New Zealand, in 1875. He took ©n active part in public affairs in Mamaku, being for periods chairman or the Ratepayers' Association, the Domain Board, the local school committee and several sports bodies. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and secretary of the Oddfellows' Lodge. His wife died 27 Years ago. Mr. Sims is survived by four daughters and three sons. There are 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildi en.

MR. K. X. PITA Mr. Keremeta Ngaliuripotu Pita, a prominent Maori resident of Northcote, has died at his home, "Waiurutoa. Mr Pita served in the last war. first with the Australian Forces and With the second Maori Foilowmgthe war he was known as bergeant Sam to many of his former comrades-m-ai ms. He settled at his home on the Catholw Maori Reserve at Auataha, Jsorthcote. Mr. Pita was one of the original scholars ofthe Marist Brothers' School' iri' H °^ s p ot L ® tr |nd He is survived by his wife, one son ana one daughter.
