GAS RESTRICTED
SUPPLY IN AUCKLAND
REDUCED COAL RESERVES
Due to a serious reduction in the company's reserves of coal, domestic consumers of gas in Auckland would receive a restricted supply from to-day, while industrial consumers would receive none, stated the manager of ihe Auckland Gas Company, Mr. R. Worley, to-day. . Normal gas pressure would be available for domestic consumers after t°" da y f° r two hours in the morning from 6.30, from 11 a.m. to 1.15 p.m.; and from 4 p m to 6.30 p.m. Pressure at other times would be . reduced to an unusable degree. Following on the period when the West Coast bars were unworkable there had been a diversion of coaJ carried by Union Steam Ship Company vessels to meet an emergency, said Mr. Worley. It was not expected that additional supplies would arrive in Auckland before next Saturday. He added that production at the works in recent weeks had increased and Auckland's gas worries had appeared to be over. It was heartbreaking, therefore, for the company to be placed in a position where= it had to restrict supply. The Blight reserve in the holders was not sufficient to allow unrestricted distribution.
