COASTGUARD SERVICE
That the New Zealand Coastguard Service had not received the support that its humanitarian service merited was stated in the report presented by the president, the Rev. Jasper Calder, at the annual meeting last night. It was stated that in the past year the two vessels of the service had travelled 7938 miles on patrol and rescue work, and 59 boats had been salvaged and their crews rescued after capsizing. Forty cases of illness and accident had been transported from islands in the gulf to hospital. Officers elected were:—President, the Rev. Jasper Calder; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. G. Pulman. J. Avenell, H. N. Burgess, O. Williams and Captain Sergeant.
