START IN GREY LYNN ST. COLUMBA'S HALL CLUB Claiming to be the first of its kind in the Auckland area, the St. Columba's vouth centre will hold its official opening night on July 12. For the past 12 months Captain \ . L. Bunce, of the Church Armj 7 , has been occupied in preparing for the establishment of such a centre m Grey Lvnn. He estimated that there are 4000 boys and girls between the ages of 10 years and 20 years in the district and that approximately 1000 are not catered for by church or recreational organisations. St. Columba's Hall has been secured as the headquarters for the youth centre, which ranges from Westmere to Newton, and arrangements have been made for games instructors, supervisors, hosts and hostesses. The centre is undenominational, and will cater for physical, cultural, social and spiritual activities. Already the hall is open for four nights "in the week for the development of the various groups, which include those for gymnastics, physical training, games, dancing, art and educational classes, music, and hobby groups. It is proposed also to have afternoon sessions for boys and girls after school. Captain Bunce states that the centre is being moulded on lines prepared by similar movements in England and America, adopted to local conditions. At the formal opening next month addresses are expected to be given by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, the Minister for Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, and by Captain S. R. Banyard, director of ths Church Army in New Zealand.
