ACCOMMODATION FOR 1500
The United States naval hospital at Market Road, which was built two years ago, comprises about 80 separate structures, with accommodation for about 1500 people. It is centrally heated and consists mainly of large wards. There are also many smaller wards and rooms. The area is drained, access roads and paths are tar-sealed, and lawns and gardens have been formed. The No. 1 Port Depot is on the old Parnell School site, and consists of stores and assembly halls. Opposite the depot a block of flats was built for Air Force personnel. The Air Force has a section of the Training College and several premises in the city.
