Pilot-Officer John Howard Sumner, son of Mrs. E. W. Sumner, of Thames Street, Hamilton.

The only son of Mrs. Sumner and the late Major W. C. Sumner, Pilot-Officer Sumner, who was 20 years of age, had been in tli£ Royal New Zealand Air Force for two years. He was born at Rotorua and was .educated at the Rotorua and Hamilton High Schools. Before joining the Air Force he was engaged in farming. He was trained in New Zealand and Canada, and recently returned to this country.
